My father taught me a lot about Jesus being the perfect example for all things, and how we are to follow in His footsteps. One such example is baptism.
Many say that baptism holds no significance, that it is merely symbolic. I disagree on many levels, but the simplest explanation is that even Jesus was baptized! How could baptism not be an important step in the Christian life if even Jesus was baptized???
My father says, “if it was good enough for Jesus, it’s good enough for me.”
Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life. So, baptism in His case was not for the remission of sins, but rather to “fulfill all righteousness,” as He Himself explained to John the Baptist in Matthew 3:15. Jesus did this to show us the steps of a righteous life.
And how did His Father affirm His decision? “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:17)
We have some good friends getting baptized today. Unfortunately we can’t be there to celebrate with them, but we pray they will feel their Heavenly Father’s loving affirmation as they follow in the steps of Jesus.
"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen." Matthew 28:19-20
